Jonathan Burns Visit MPTC

Recently as part of the student life back to college events, Jonathan Burns, kicked off his skills to the Moraine Park community. To start off the comedy hour students and staff were offered free lunch (chicken Alfredo with garlic bread). I had the opportunity to introduce Jonathan Burns before his performance. Jonathan Burns is known for his flexibility, curiosity, and goofiness around the world performing at universities, festivals, and events. During this time I enjoyed his clever tricks and jokes. Most of the things he was did were amazing and I couldn't believe some of the things he was able to pull off. I won't ruin anything for you but if you have the chance to see him, I recommend it because you will have a great time! To get a sneak preview of his work, check out his website at www.flexiblecomedy.com or his twitter account @ Jonathan Burns. Cheers, Lee IV

Welcome Back

Welcome Back to Moraine Park Ahoy Mates! Welcome back to another exciting semester. This is the time of the year when I get to meet new people, start new classes and enjoy a lot of exciting fun. This is my last semester at Moraine Park but I am excited to join the fun activities ahead. To kick off the semester student life welcomed back the Moraine Park Community with free food and fun live entertainment. On the first day of classes, students and staff including Moraine Park’s President Dr. Sheila Ruhland came to watch a professional speaker who uses the persona, wit and wisdom of Forrest Gump. Forrest Gump is one of my favorite movies of all time and I couldn't believe how much the speaker looked like Forrest Gump in the movie. I couldn't stay to watch the whole segment because I had class, but I heard the act was unique and fun. I was able to get a picture with Forrest Gump and like I said before this person looked exactly like Tom Hanks. I can tell already that this semester is going to be a busy, fun semester. So stay tuned and let the semester begin! Cheers, Lee IV

End of Summer Holiday

As the summer holiday comes to an end I cannot believe how fast the summer came and went. As I look back I had a fun summer and I don't regret it at all. Travelling to Europe this summer has motivated me to finish my last semester at Moraine Park and looking forward for trips ahead. I enjoyed sharing my summer fun here in Wisconsin with you. There were things I didn't get a chance to do yet, but I am planning on doing many more things in the months ahead. I hope you had wonderful summer as classes and fall is near. I would love to hear how your summer was and any advice I should do in the future. In my next blog I will blogging about back to school fun! See you soon! Cheers, Lee IV

Chippy’s Kettle Corn

s
Recently my friend Alyssa from Moraine Park gave me a tour of Beaver Dam. I learned and saw a lot of things of the town from a local prospective. One of the places I wanted to visit was Chippy’s Kettle Corn who is known for their unique flavors; their flavors are endless. The owners are Scott and Linda Chipman and they have a huge passion in the prodcts they make. They usually are on the road elling their products at various farmers markets and fairs, but recently they just opened their shop in Beaver Dam. Now they are multi tasking their business on the road and at the shop. When I entered the shop I was amazed by the smell and the appearances of the products inside. At Chippy’s they offer candies, ice cream from Kelley Country Creamery, and of course kettle popcorn. When I talked to Linda she told me how they made their kettle corn and showed me the numerous of flavors they make. To name a few they make flavors of blue raspberry, watermelon, grape, strawberry lemonade, coconut black cherry, and other amazing flavors. I couldn’t resist buying a confetti mixture of popcorn and I pretty sure I will be back shortly to purchase more. To get more information about Chippy’s business you can check out their website at http://chippyskettlecorn.com/ or their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ChippysPopcornCreations. Cheers, Lee IV

Chicago in August

To kick off the month of August I headed down to Chicago to visit my family and enjoyed being outside of Fond du Lac. Like usual I took the Greyhound bus from Fond du Lac to Chicago to avoid driving, traffic, and to save on gas. For a round trip it cost $65 which is a great cost for a nice getaway. Shortly after I met up with my mom and step-father as they picked me up f
rom the train station. We caught up on the latest news in the city and checked out the newest stores. My mother made sure I went to this one donut shop called Dat Donut who is known for their delicious donuts. They have huge cinnamon buns and donuts that are the size of my head. As you can see in my pictures they are beyond huge. The following day we traveled around the city and I was able to see my brothers and grandma. My day in Chicago was beautiful and the weather was warm with blue skies, I couldn’t ask for much more. One of my favorite places to visit in the city is the north side because it filled with restaurants, stores, beautiful homes, and parks. One town in particular I recommend visiting is the Lincoln Park area. Once you visit here you’ll probably fall in love with this little town in the city. On my last day in Chicago I went to watch my favorite baseball team the Chicago White Sox play against the Kansas City Royals. I went with my girlfriend, mom, and step-dad and we had some great seats on the third base side. I haven’t been to the Sox stadium in years, so it was great being back and cheering on the White Sox. They played a great game and they ended up beating the Royals 4-2; I was ecstatic I couldn’t ask for any better game. As all good thing come to an end we all headed back home, and started packing for my return to Fond du Lac. Now it is back to reality to get ready for another week of work, but I’ll catch you soon in my next blog. Cheers, Lee IV

Wedding Season

Recently I had the opportunity to attend a friend’s wedding at the Holiday Inn in Fond du Lac. It was a beautiful day for a wedding and the ceremony was wonderful and fun. I was my friend Sean date and we didn’t realize how many people from the wedding party we knew personally. We had wonderful time watching the slideshow of how the married couples met, and listening to thestories from the wedding party. It is always fun hearing the stories they share, it is never a dull moment with them. Afterwards we started eating our dinner and which was good. I had a steak with mashed potatoes and corn. For dessert we had cupcakes and there was a fondue fountain made by Aimee from Blessed Bee Cupcakes. I was able to talk to her and see how her shop is doing, and of course the cupcakes were delicious. Shortly afterwards the dancing kicked off and we watched the father-daughter and mother-son dances. Everybody there had a wonderful time with each other and danced the night away. I was glad I was able to attend a wedding this summer because I missed the previous weddings when I was away on my trip. Well mates that is all for now, in my next blog I will write about my new job, stay tuned! Cheers, Lee IV

Cherry Berry Opens in Fond du Lac

There have been several new businesses that opened up recently in Fond du Lac. Cherry Berry is the latest opening in town and is located on the corner of Main and Johnson Streets next to Walgreens and Jimmy John’s. Cherry Berry is a self-serve yogurt bar that offers over 50 rotating flavors and numerous amounts of toppings to choose from. When I first walked into Cherry Berry I was amazed to the see the retro design of the furniture and bright colors. I was overwhelmed of choices to choose from because everything looked and smelled good, and the toppings options were even better. The best way I handled all the toppings were by adding everything on top including the fruits and candies. I was satisfied with the frozen yogurt, and the price was well worth it. Seeing this type of business open in Fond du Lac is great for the community because they offer a lot of healthy choices and allow people to expand their taste buds. I am looking forward for more business opening in 2012, and I will make sure I pass the word to you when find out! Cheers, Lee IV

2012 London Olympics

As the 2012 Olympics is in full swing, there has been a lot of exciting sporting events to watch. It is awesome to watch athletes from around the world represent their countries to win the gold. When I watched the opening ceremonies it was amazing how people from all over come together to share a unique event in history, regardless of political opinion, ethnicity, or beliefs. During the ceremonies I had the ability to learn about countries I never heard of before. I took this opportunity to add these countries to my list of places to visit, and the list got longer. Every day I wake up, the first thing I do is turn on the television and search which sporting event I have not watched yet. My favorites thus far have been ping pong, soccer, and volleyball. Without any doubt I cannot resist seeing all the coverage around London, as it brings back memories when I was there two months ago. I can tell I learned a lot when I were there because each time they showed a landmark, I say to myself I was there and learned about that. As I continue to cheer on USA, I would like to know what events are your favorites. Leave a comment or two I would love to hear from you! Cheers, Lee IV

Soccer match in Chicago

The one thing I love about summer is the endless possibilities of things to do at the spare moment. For example, one of my friends posted on Facebook asking anybody if they wanted free tickets to watch a soccer match in Chicago at Wrigley Field. Within seconds I quickly responded and got four free tickets, and the only thing I had to purchase was the bus ticket from Milwaukee. I asked three of my friends to join me and they quickly responded as well. As we arrived in Chicago I was excited to watch one of my favorite Italian team AS Roma play against a Polish team Lublin. The city was filled with people dressed up in their team uniform and colors. Another remarkable thing about this event was this was the first soccer game at Wrigley Field, and I was able to witness a historical event. Once the game kicked off AS Roma scored within a minute, and they didn’t stop there. Throughout the match both teams played a tough match, but AS Roma played harder. I made sure since I was in Chicago I ate some of my favorite dishes such as the Italian beef sandwich, a real deep dish pizza, and a Chicago hot dog without ketchup. The second half of the match AS Roma still controlled the game and was able to shutout the Polish team 4-0. My friends and I were glad we had the chance to watch an awesome match and be in Chicago. After the game we walked around the city before heading back to Wisconsin. It was a fun day trip, and I am looking forward for more random days of summer.

The play RENT came to FDL

Recently I had the opportunity to watch the play RENT at the Fond du Lac Community Theatre. I was excited to attend this play because years ago I watched the film of RENT, but never had the chance to see RENT in person. RENT was originally on Broadway for 12 years, and was shown worldwide. This Broadway show is about a community celebrating life in the face of death and AIDS at the end of the 20th century. RENT is an emotional musical that touches the heart, but is filled with laughter as well. Throughout the performance I was impressed how well the actors and actress were playing the roles of the characters. The cast were local people around Fond du Lac who audition, and they came from different backgrounds in the performance art world. If you never seen RENT I recommend it and either buy or rent at your local video store. I am looking forward for the next series of plays coming to the Fond du Lac Community Theatre. Cheers, Lee IV
