School in Full Session
On the second day of classes Student Government put together a welcome back event for students and staff on the Fond du Lac campuses. The sponsored event consisted of a Trivia game and free lunch. Students and staff had the opportunity to have a free lunch with a student/staff I.D. and the chance to win some great prizes. The event kicked off with the audience answering random trivia questions to win cash or gift cards from various locations. In one round I volunteered to go up front to compete with other students about geography subjects. After a quick round of questions and answers, I won a gift card and I was really pumped. There were several other rounds where other students did whatever it took to win cash prizes. It was funny seeing all the mini games and competition people did to win. I had a lot of fun meeting some new people and seeing people who I haven’t seen since the winter break. To catch more events like this you can check out the calendar on myMPTC for events this semester. So don’t just sit there, come out to meet new people and have some fun. Plus who doesn’t like to win? Catch you soon!

November Review
Well mates November has come and gone. Just like the previous months’ time keeps on flying by within a blink of an eye. Just in case you forgot what happened in November here is a brief summary. The month kicked off with the Presidential Election Day, which was an intense campaign event. Fox 11 news came to Moraine Park to do a live segment in the culinary arts department about Thanksgiving tips and ideas. There were several meetings for student senate including the District Student Government meeting, regarding future plans and events for school. Another fun event was my first Turkey Trot 5 mile run on Turkey Day. Of course Black Friday shopping, but instead I took a small trip to Milwaukee to hang out with my friends. Last but not least all the fun events Student Life put together such as casino day and bingo day which included awesome prizes for people to win. I had a great time in November, but I must keep pushing through as the end of the semester is near. Now let the December fun begins!

MPTC District Student Government
G’day mates! One of the most important things about going to college is being part of a committee or a student club. Being involved in a club on campus can be a challenge due to work, family, and other obligations, but going the extra mile goes a long way. Over the years I have learned to balance my college, social, and work obligations. This has helped me to prepare myself for the real-world when there are deadlines. I am able to multi-task and get things accomplished. Another great reason to join a club or a committee is having a voice as a student and making a difference. When going to college you may face some obstacles and are not always happy with the results, but being involved on campus can make a difference. For example, recently I attended a District Student Government meeting in Lomira. I was able to get an inside look of the things happening on campus. I learned it takes a lot of planning, preparation and organization for campus events to happen. During this meeting we had a lunch-conversation with MPTC President Dr. Sheila Ruhland. We discussed some issues that students had about new changes and things that are coming in the near future. I am glad to see MPTC staff, students, and President Dr. Ruhland come together as a family. This showed how committed everyone is as part of the MPTC family. After the meeting I realized how important it is to be part of a club to voice our opinion and make changes on campus. Last but not least, being in extra-curricular activities can improve networking, meeting new people, and making friends. The places that you can see are endless. So what are you waiting for? Get out there and be involved because you won’t regret it.

Hypnotist Lunch
Recently student life welcomed Hypnotist Dan Lornitis to all three Moraine Park campuses. Along with free entertainment came free lunch for students and staff with a student or staff ID. For lunch we had the choice between chicken or ground beef fajitas, rice, dessert, and a drink. I really enjoyed the food and since lunch was free what more could I ask for? Duri
ng the show Hypnotist Dan Lornitis humored us with his jokes and taught us about the various stages of the brain that can get hypnotized. Some people question whether or not hypnotizing is real or not, but the most important part is to remember you have to be open-minded and be relaxed. Everyday one way or another we experience hypnotizing without realizing it. This could be from daydreaming, sleep walking, or the moment you are driving and forget the last two miles of your journey. These are some examples and levels of the stages of hypnotizing. Since I’ve been hypnotized before, I volunteered to get on stage with nine other students.
At first I was shaking and nervous because I didn’t know what to expect. As I became relaxed my mind went in a different area, and I don’t remember much during the show. I know one thing for sure it didn’t feel like the show was for over an hour, and afterwards my body was a little weird but I also felt refreshed. Students told me they had a fun time at the event and I would recommend try getting hypnotized to experience it first-hand. You can check some of his show by clicking here: http://www.danlornitis.com/performances/media/
For the rest of my day, I felt more productive. I am looking forward to more events student life put together for the college.

Casino Day at Moraine Park
Recently student life put together a casino day which was open for all Moraine Park students and it was free. I made sure I joined the fun and told friends to make sure come play and have the chance to win some awesome prizes. I played my favorite casino games of roulette and blackjack. The best part of playing these games on casino day is the dealers are more than willing to assist and help you with hints and ways to win the game since casino odds are against you. I actually played the whole time while the event was going on. It was a great turn out although many people had to leave due to class. At the end once your money was tallied up you could trade them in for tickets to enter to win the different prizes. There were a lot of gift cards available for different places and the grand prize was a $150 visa card. As the names were being drawn from the box I was anxious to see if my name would be called. Moments later my wish came true and my name was picked, I was very happy. I wanted to win the grand prize but I was glad to win. Overall, everybody had a good time playing and doing something fun from the usual day at college. I am looking forward for more student life events ahead. Until then, I will see you later in my next blog; Ciao!

Jonathan Burns Visit MPTC
Recently as part of the student life back to college events, Jonathan Burns, kicked off his skills to the Moraine Park community. To start off the comedy hour students and staff were offered free lunch (chicken Alfredo with garlic bread). I had the opportunity to introduce Jonathan Burns before his performance. Jonathan Burns is known for his flexibility, curiosity, and goofiness around the world performing at universities, festivals, and events. During this time I enjoyed his clever tricks and jokes. Most of the things he was did were amazing and I couldn't believe some of the things he was able to pull off. I won't ruin anything for you but if you have the chance to see him, I recommend it because you will have a great time! To get a sneak preview of his work, check out his website at www.flexiblecomedy.com or his twitter account @ Jonathan Burns.

Welcome Back
Welcome Back to Moraine Park Ahoy Mates! Welcome back to another exciting semester. This is the time of the year when I get to meet new people, start new classes and enjoy a lot of exciting fun. This is my last semester at Moraine Park but I am excited to join the fun activities ahead. To kick off the semester student life welcomed back the Moraine Park Community with free food and fun live entertainment. On the first day of classes, students and staff including Moraine Park’s President Dr. Sheila Ruhland came to watch a professional speaker who uses the persona, wit and wisdom of Forrest Gump. Forrest Gump is one of my favorite movies of all time and I couldn't believe how much the speaker looked like Forrest Gump in the movie. I couldn't stay to watch the whole segment because I had class, but I heard the act was unique and fun. I was able to get a picture with Forrest Gump and like I said before this person looked exactly like Tom Hanks. I can tell already that this semester is going to be a busy, fun semester. So stay tuned and let the semester begin!

Lunch ‘n Learn

G’day mates! Welcome to another journey! On March 6, Student Life held a Lunch ‘n Learn event for students to attend speaker, Adam LoDolce. Adam LoDolce is America’s dating coach on social freedom. He is also known for his best seller book “Being Alone Sucks” and was seen on numerous television networks. His focus is to break social norms, and to challenge our self by talking to people who we don’t know, and meeting new people. When I saw posters about Adam coming to Moraine Park, I made sure to check out the event because this is something right up my alley, to speak and meet people. During this time we were offered free lunch with our student I.D. card. On the menu we had an open nacho bar, ice cream, and a choice of beverage. Everything was good especially since it was free, so I couldn’t complain. As Adam spoke I gained some useful tips I can use in my life. Such as learning the number one thing people fear in life is Public Speaking, which is interesting because we speak to people every day. Adam pointed out how he made a difference in his life by changing his old appearance, and doing things he wanted to do. There are a lot of things you can learn from Adam LoDolce. You can check out his homepage at http://ultimatesocialfreedom.com/dating-expert/ . I am also looking forward for the upcoming event Student Life has to offer for the upcoming month. Until next time, ciao!
Cheers,
Lee IV
