Milwaukee Trip

Recently I made a random trip down to Milwaukee with my friend Heather from Moraine Park. We headed down to the city on Saturday night to check out some bands at bar called B.B.C. located on the east side of the city. I was excited to check these bands because their genre of music is an Irish rock theme. The three bands were Living Dred, Wise guys and Scallywags, and Whiskey o
f the Damned. They each gave an excellent performance on stage, and got the crowd pumped up to their music. My friend Heather knew one of the band members of the Living Dred and I was able to meet the band. They were a fun group to talk to and they were down to earth. We didn't stay out too late because we both had to work the next morning; therefore, we came back the same night. I had a lot of fun doing something different to support local bands in the big city. Remember you don't have to look far to find something fun to do. Catch you soon in my next blog, ciao! Cheers, Lee IV

Germany Exchange Program

As part of Moraine Park Technical College’s Germany Exchange Program the German students from across the pond are coming soon. I am very excited to host and spend time with the German students to show them the lifestyle in Wisconsin. As part of the culinary arts club we have planned a lot of exciting activities for them. This is my second year being part of this program and learning another culture never gets old. Although I didn't travel with the group to Germany this past summer, I am curious to meet the new group of students. For the next 12 days I will give you an inside look of the activities we do each day. I can tell already these days ahead are going to go super-fast, but sit back and enjoy the journey! Cheers, Lee IV

Culinary Arts Club goes bowling

Recently the culinary arts club had the opportunity to go bowling at Ledgeview Lanes in Fond du Lac. This was our first gathering to hang out outside of class to have fun and enjoy a night out. It was a small gathering since it was league night at the bowling alley, but for the people who stayed around had a great time bowling, singing, and dancing. My first two rounds of bowling were not too good but the third round became a bowling throw down with our new instructor Mike who is a Moraine Park alumni. We went back and forth getting spares and strikes after strikes. As result I ended winning with a score of 216 to his 202, it was a close round to the very end. This was my highest game I bowled so far, and I hope I can score high again soon. I didn't stay too long because I had to Dj, but the rest of the group stayed to finish off their games. I'm sure we might have the opportunity to go bowling once the Germans come over to visit. Well mates, that is all for now until next time, see you soon! Cheers, Lee IV

The Walking Dead

G'day mates, I recently encountered my new favorite television series called The Walking Dead shown on AMC. If you are a big fan of zombies and a thriller theme show then this television series is perfect for you. When I watched the first episode I couldn’t stop watching the first season because the drama and plot has an excellent story line. This series feels like a never ending film that keeps going, and there is always a twist that constantly keeps me on my toes. Season 3 is will be starting in just three weeks and I can barely wait for the new episodes ahead. Make sure you check it out otherwise you will be missing out on an excellent television series. I would love to hear some feedback on how you feel about The Walking Dead. Cheers, Lee IV

Casino Day at Moraine Park

Recently student life put together a casino day which was open for all Moraine Park students and it was free. I made sure I joined the fun and told friends to make sure come play and have the chance to win some awesome prizes. I played my favorite casino games of roulette and blackjack. The best part of playing these games on casino day is the dealers are more than willing to assist and help you with hints and ways to win the game since casino odds are against you. I actually played the whole time while the event was going on. It was a great turn out although many people had to leave due to class. At the end once your money was tallied up you could trade them in for tickets to enter to win the different prizes. There were a lot of gift cards available for different places and the grand prize was a $150 visa card. As the names were being drawn from the box I was anxious to see if my name would be called. Moments later my wish came true and my name was picked, I was very happy. I wanted to win the grand prize but I was glad to win. Overall, everybody had a good time playing and doing something fun from the usual day at college. I am looking forward for more student life events ahead. Until then, I will see you later in my next blog; Ciao! Cheers, Lee IV

Fondue Fest 2012

Recently I had the opportunity to participate in my second Culinary Arts fundraising event at Fondue Fest. Being part of the Culinary Arts Club we sold fondue to help fund our educational trips to the Chicago Food Show and the German exchange program. This event was a lot of fun because I was able to work with friends and fellow classmates outside of class. This event allowed me gain more experience in the food industry, and talk to community members about Moraine Park and our culinary field. Although I had to wake up early, every moment was well worth the effort and time. During the day I was able to take a break to check out Fondue Fest and see what the other businesses were doing to promote their business. I saw a lot of familiar faces, and people were enjoying the beautiful weather. After my break I got back to work to sell the remainder of the fondue. We did well selling all of our food, but since our line was constantly busy we did run out of bread. People kept buying the fondue because it was so delicious. Overall we all put in over 10 hours of volunteer work to have this event become successful. I believe we raised over $4,000 and majority of the money will go into our fundraiser account. I am looking forward to pass on the torch to the new members next year, and show how the production line works at Fondue Fest. Hopefully next year you will check out the fun activities at Fondue Fest, and make sure you buy some fondue, otherwise you are missing out. See you next time in my next blog! Cheers, Lee IV

Culinary Club

As the semester is in full gear clubs around campus are kicking off to set up fun events for the new semester. I am currently involved in the Culinary Club at Moraine Park, and we are excited for the fun events ahead. Our first, big fundraiser of the year is Fondue Fest, and each year people have a great time eating food and learning about Moraine Park. This year we already have new members joining and we have our events lined up. Our second fundraiser we are doing this month is the Human Race. The Human Race is a fundraiser that allows clubs to raise money for their club or for a charity they choose. The Human Race is also an event where club members can participate in a 5K run at Lakeside Park on September 29 at 8:00 a.m. This year I signed up our club as the shake and bake crew, and we are pushing to raise $5,000 as a group. We are asking for any donation amount in person or online. If you want to donate online you can click on the link here http://humanrace2012.fdlvolunteer.com/2012/fdl/shakeandbakecrew/shakeandbakecrew/ to checkout our donation graph, and help us to reach our goal. I will keep you posted on our group, see you soon! Cheers, Lee IV

Labor Day Weekend

G'day mates, I hope you enjoyed your Labor Day weekend as for some it was an extended weekend, and for others it meant the official date of school begins. I enjoyed my weekend by working and enjoying the wonderful weather. On Labor Day I took the opportunity to hang out with my girlfriend and to enjoy my day off, especially since I didn't have school. We decided to head over to Lakeside Park to catch the end of Labor Day parade. While we were at the park we threw around the Frisbee and watched the boats on the lake. After a while we decided to drive to Target to purchase one of my favorite yard games, ladder ball. If you haven't played this game yet I recommend buying it because it is great for all ages and events. Once we finished playing ladder ball we ended the day by watching television. I must say this was a great way to enjoy Labor Day, but I'm sure next year I will make sure to purchase a grill to barbecue. I will love to hear how you enjoyed your Labor Day weekend! Catch you soon in my next blog! Cheers, Lee IV

Brewers Game in Chicago

Recently I had the opportunity to attend a Brewers game against the Chicago Cubs in Chicago. This event was sponsored by the Marian University Alumni Association. We left early in the morning to take a bus down to Chicago from Fond du Lac. I was super tired but I was excited to watch a game and meet former alumni. As we arrived in Chicago we went on a Brewery tour at Goose Island. For two hours we had unlimited amounts of drinks and food. During this time we were able to talk to each other and enjoy the beautiful weather. After the Brewery tour we headed down the street to Wrigley Field to watch the baseball game. Our seats were located in section 231 on the first base side. The match between these teams was pretty intense and each team played with their best skills. I had the chance to get on television when I sat behind the Cubs bench with some of my friends. The game was long and I thought the Brewers would win, but the Cubs came back to win the game. Overall I had a great time in Chicago and meeting former alumni. If you get a chance to visit Wrigley Field I recommend it because it is a historical site in Chicago. After a long day I called it a day and got some rest. I shall catch you soon in my next blog. Cheers, Lee IV

Dunk Tank at MPTC

Last week several members of Moraine Park Technical College’s staff participated in a dunk tank fundraiser. Students and staff had the chance to help raise money by spending $1 for three balls to be thrown to help raise money for MPACTE scholarships. There were a lot of people who came out to join the fun and help raise money for a good cause. I threw a couple of balls and I must say my arm got a little sore, but I was able to hit the target to dunk a couple of people. The weather was perfect to have a dunk tank on this day because the sun was warm with clear skies. I stayed for the whole event to catch some photos of people and talked to people to see how they liked the event. Overall I think everyone enjoyed coming out to a fun event, and I believe a lot of money was raised for a quick fundraiser. I am sure more fun events are coming ahead, so stayed tuned. Cheers, Lee IV

The Color Run in Milwaukee

Recently, I had the opportunity to do my first 5K run in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A group of friends and I joined the most fun run ever. The Color Run is an event that is hosted in cities around the United States including Australia. This event is a bit different from your typical runs. Regardless of age, weight and experience people are welcome to join with family and friends. The color run helps raise funds in the surrounding communities to create a better environment for charities. This year’s event was sold out and 10,000 people came out to join the fun activities. During the race I was able to keep up with our group and we had a blast seeing people dressed up in the craziest gear ever. The best part of this run was running through the various colors ranging from blue, yellow, pink, and orange. Then at the end of the run there was a huge celebration with music and a grand finale of throwing color in the air. This was truly a great experience and I am looking forward for more events like this, and doing other runs in the future. To find more information about the Color Run and to see where the next event will be held check out the website at www.thecolorrun.com. Catch you soon in my adventures blog. Cheers, Lee IV
