Hop on board mate, this is a journey you don't want to miss out on, I reckon.

Brakebush Tour
Another exciting trip I got to experience with the German students was a tour at the Brakebush plant. Brakebush is known for their chicken processing plant that serves many big and small restaurant businesses. We drove to Westfield which is about an hour west of Fond du Lac. The drive there was beautiful and some of the German students that drove with me enjoyed the scenery and the music I was playing. Once we arrived at the plant we had to sign papers making sure we won’t use their secret recipes and had to put protective gear on to prevent any cross contamination. Our tour guides were held by Corporate Chef Mark, and other supervisors who worked on the main floors. As we toured the plant I didn’t realize how huge the place was. Each section of the plant had a pacific part to manufacture various chicken parts such as chicken nuggets, tenders, and wings. The amount of chicken that goes through this place is amazing! Our tour and video lasted about two hours, and afterwards we had lunch that was provided by Chef Mark. He gave samples of their products and they were delicious, I couldn’t complain about free food plus the quality of the products was good. Everyone enjoyed themselves and learned how Brakebush runs their company and it is the only plant they use is in Wisconsin. I’m sure after this little trip the Germans will keep talking about this place down the road to others.

Fondue Fest 2012
Recently I had the opportunity to participate in my second Culinary Arts fundraising event at Fondue Fest. Being part of the Culinary Arts Club we sold fondue to help fund our educational trips to the Chicago Food Show and the German exchange program. This event was a lot of fun because I was able to work with friends and fellow classmates outside of class. This event allowed me gain more experience in the food industry, and talk to community members about Moraine Park and our culinary field. Although I had to wake up early, every moment was well worth the effort and time. During the day I was able to take a break to check out Fondue Fest and see what the other businesses were doing to promote their business. I saw a lot of familiar faces, and people were enjoying the beautiful weather. After my break I got back to work to sell the remainder of the fondue. We did well selling all of our food, but since our line was constantly busy we did run out of bread. People kept buying the fondue because it was so delicious. Overall we all put in over 10 hours of volunteer work to have this event become successful. I believe we raised over $4,000 and majority of the money will go into our fundraiser account. I am looking forward to pass on the torch to the new members next year, and show how the production line works at Fondue Fest. Hopefully next year you will check out the fun activities at Fondue Fest, and make sure you buy some fondue, otherwise you are missing out. See you next time in my next blog!

The Color Run in Milwaukee
Recently, I had the opportunity to do my first 5K run in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A group of friends and I joined the most fun run ever. The Color Run is an event that is hosted in cities around the United States including Australia. This event is a bit different from your typical runs. Regardless of age, weight and experience people are welcome to join with family and friends. The color run helps raise funds in the surrounding communities to create a better environment for charities. This year’s event was sold out and 10,000 people came out to join the fun activities. During the race I was able to keep up with our group and we had a blast seeing people dressed up in the craziest gear ever. The best part of this run was running through the various colors ranging from blue, yellow, pink, and orange. Then at the end of the run there was a huge celebration with music and a grand finale of throwing color in the air. This was truly a great experience and I am looking forward for more events like this, and doing other runs in the future. To find more information about the Color Run and to see where the next event will be held check out the website at www.thecolorrun.com. Catch you soon in my adventures blog.

End of Summer Holiday
As the summer holiday comes to an end I cannot believe how fast the summer came and went. As I look back I had a fun summer and I don't regret it at all. Travelling to Europe this summer has motivated me to finish my last semester at Moraine Park and looking forward for trips ahead. I enjoyed sharing my summer fun here in Wisconsin with you. There were things I didn't get a chance to do yet, but I am planning on doing many more things in the months ahead. I hope you had wonderful summer as classes and fall is near. I would love to hear how your summer was and any advice I should do in the future. In my next blog I will blogging about back to school fun! See you soon!

Enjoying the outdoors on Friday the 13th
Most people are superstitious about Friday the 13th but I think it’s a way for people to blame something gone wrong on this historical day. Instead of staying inside I went to Redgranite, Wisconsin for their unique quarry. The drive from Fond du Lac is about a forty-five minute drive without construction. Redgranite is another city in Wisconsin I recommend you to visit in the summer because you are able to jump off cliffs into the water, go swimming, and layout in the sun with friends and family. As a warning you have to be careful around certain cliffs because of the rocks, but the majority of the area is free from dangerous rocks. Since I am not a great swimmer I decided to stay on land to watch my friends and other people jump off the cliffs. I did get in the water where the water was shallow and it was so refreshing. After staying in the sun for hours we got hungry so we decided to leave. We went to Nikos Gyros in Oshkosh. This place has amazing gyros ranging from burgers, combo meals, and sandwiches. I got the gyro burger with Cajun fries and of course it was yummy. You probably can tell by now that I like spicy food because it makes the food tasty. After we finished eating we headed home and I fell asleep because the sun drained me out. I must say this was a great Friday the 13th in the sun, I hope your day was just as fun or interesting! Catch you soon in my next blog as I talk about my experience working at Rock USA in Oshkosh.

Wolf River in Wisconsin
Thus far in my blogs for summer activities I recommended going to Bay Beach, Miniature golfing, Kelley Country Creamery, and Bradford beach. For my fifth destination I recommend going tubing on the Wolf River in New London, Wisconsin. A group of friends and I planned this trip at the last minute. For years I heard about people going to the Wolf River, and I finally had the opportunity to go for myself. From Fond du Lac it is about a forty-five minute drive on a good day. As we arrived we paid ten dollars to relax and tube down the river. It takes about two hours for the short length and six hours for the long length of the river. Since we got there a little later we had to do the short trip. We enjoyed the afternoon in the sun and the refreshing water. The area is beautiful, filled with nature, birds, and fish. You have to visit to fully understand the experience on the Wolf River. Since the river is low due lack of rain this summer we kept running into rocks, but that didn’t prevent us from having fun. Usually if the river is higher you don’t have to worry about any rocks you just go right above them. Two hours later we finished our mini trip on the river; we had a lot of fun doing “something out of the blue”. At the Wolf River you can also camp, fish and participate in other water fun activities. For more information you can check out the website at http://www.wolfrivertrips.com. Well just don’t sit there go out enjoy what Wisconsin has to offer, catch you soon.

Going with the flow
Sometime in life I learned when you don’t plan anything to do and “go with the flow” you tend to have more fun. I guess this happens because I have no expectations to live up to. For a prime example the other day my friend Hayley and I went to Fat Joes restaurant in Fond du Lac for dinner and to talk about my trip in Europe. The food was excellent and improved a lot from the first time I went there. We were having a good time eating drinking, and remembering things from our trip from last year when we did the German exchange program. Afterwards we headed outside to the check out the annual America’s Dairyland Bike race located downtown on Main Street in Fond du Lac. People from all over come here to race. I was amazed to see how fast the bikers were going, and how each biker is within inches of one another. We watched a couple of laps before heading off to check out the new restaurant called Trinity. The building used to be a church, but is now changed into a restaurant and bar while keeping the church structure. The restaurant is not open for two more weeks, but the bar was open to the public to get a sneak preview of the place. Inside was beautiful and filled with a lot of people; I can tell this place is going to be fully packed once the whole place is officially open. As we headed outside we noticed the band, Road Trip, was performing on the stage. Road Trip is an amazing band that performs a lot of cover songs, and is well known around the state. They know how to get the crowd going and singing classic music that gets people dancing. The weather was perfect for a summer night, and the community was having a great time as well. Once the concert ended we headed back on Main Street to finish off the night. I must say none of the things we did were planned, but everything fell into place, and it cannot get any better than that. So now you see “going with the flow” can be a lot of fun.

Fun in Wisconsin at Bay Beach
Have you ever wondered what is there to do in the great state of Wisconsin in the summer? Well now you can find out throughout my blogs this summer. To get a quick thrill and have fun with friends and family the first thing I recommend to add your list of things to do in the summer is going to Bay Beach in Green Bay. Since I am not from Wisconsin I thought Bay Beach was a real beach, but actually it is an amusement park for all ages. Many people know this area because they went to Bay Beach when they were little with their family and friends. My girlfriend Rachel and some friends drove up to Green Bay to have some fun at Bay Beach. Compared to Six Flags Great America and Carnivals rides, Bay Beach is a lot cheaper than those places. The average cost of each ride is about 50 cents, and some are even 25 cents. Since I am not a big of heights I didn’t go on some rides, but I still had a good time doing something different. For more information check the website at http://www.ci.green-bay.wi.us/BayBeach/index.html

Friday the 13th
G’day Mates! Some people are suspicious about Friday the 13th, but I believe it is all in people minds. On April 13, my classmate Kathy and I headed down to Madison Technical College’s west campus. We headed down to the campus to discuss the topic of diversity. This open panel included presidents from numerous technical colleges in the state of Wisconsin. We were able to speak on our behalf as students on how we feel about diversity, and ways to bring awareness to other cultures. The discussion panel went really well and I heard stories from two other students from MATC and from the presidents of the different colleges about their perspectives. I think we all came out of the meeting learning new information, and forming a great community. After our discussion came to an end, Kathy and I, along with two other students took a tour of the campus. Although a small campus, there are numerous of things to offer to students. As the tour came to an end Kathy and I figured it would be a great opportunity for us to head downtown to Madison on State Street. If you never been down on State Street, I recommend you do because there are numerous of restaurants, shops, and plenty of other things to do and see. On State Street we stopped by STA (Student Travel Agency) to book my hostel in Dublin for my Europe trip. Then we headed next door to a cupcake shop; the cupcakes were amazing! I had a red velvet and a guacamole cupcake. I know it sounds odd, but the flavor was beyond amazing! We continued walking down on State Street passing numerous shops to see what catches our eyes. During this we worked up an appetite, so we decided to eat at a restaurant called Five Guys. This place is a must have because the burgers are fresh, amazing, and you can put whatever you want on them and then get a cup of fries. This combo is beyond amazing, so if you don’t try Five Guys Burger, then you are missing out! After a hearty meal we figured it was time for us to head home because we both had to work, unfortunately, but if you’re going to have fun you have to work. The ride back to Fond du Lac was not too bad for a windy day. After another fun time in Madison, I must say I was beyond tired; therefore it is time to dock the ship! I’ll catch you soon as we set sail for shopping in Appleton!

Sunday Fun day

Ahoy Mates! February 19 was a super long but fun day. It all started with me working at Qdoba in the morning. My shift wasn’t too bad for a Sunday, but it seems like lately we’ve been getting a good rush in the afternoon times; which is good as it makes the time go by faster. I was ready to be done because I was excited to go tubing with my friend Rachel at Sunburst Ski Resort located in Kewaskum, Wisconsin. Once I finished my shift we grabbed a bit to eat at Hardees, and they have this new buffalo chicken sandwich which is really good and I recommend it. Then we headed on down to Sunburst. On that day the weather was beautiful, sunny, and warm; a perfect day to be outside. As we approached the ski resort we could tell there was a difference in the temperature because it was a lot cooler with all the snow around. We waited in line for ten minutes but the wait was worth the adventure. As we approach the hill there is a tube elevator that allowed us to go up on the hill without getting tired. Once we were on top of the hill we saw how beautiful the area looked on top of the hill. There were a lot of people in line, but it went by super fast once things got started. When it was my turn to go down the hill I was so pumped. The first dip of the hill my stomach drop but the rush overturned my fear of the speed. We easily went down the hill over a dozen of times. As time went by my friend Rachel and I would race to see who was the fastest. We both broke even in the series. After awhile we got tired and headed back home, but for me I still had a soccer match in Oshkosh. I already knew by the end of the night I would be super tired and sore from all the activities.
An hour later my soccer match started and we were pushing for a win because this session we haven’t been doing the best as we usually do. Although this league is for fun, we like to win at the same time. We started off strong by taking the lead three to zero. Then, out of nowhere the opposing team caught up by scoring three unanswered goals. At half time we tried to see what we were doing wrong, and change our plan. Our new approach worked for awhile but then we allowed the opposing team to score to end the game on a tie. We were a bit disappointed so we are looking forward to our next game in the upcoming week. Afterwards I headed home, I thought I would be able to do some more homework, but I was too tired to stay awake. So now you can see why today was a super long fun Sunday! In my next voyage you will hear about how I prepared for my Student Ambassador interview, so stay tuned!

Another Happy Friday
G’day Mates! Welcome to another Friday! On February 17, I started my day off with celebrating my other brother’s birthday by wishing him Happy Birthday, the day after my younger brother’s birthday. I can’t believe my brother Chris turned eighteen. Like always, I can’t believe how time is flying. In the fall he will be attending college as freshmen. I already remember the day when I was a freshman, but I know he will do fine. After I called him for his birthday wishes I got ready for another productive day. I went to school to register for my food styling class competition in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I can’t believe we are two weeks away from competition. I am little nervous, but I know our team will do whatever it takes to win. Plus the experience is priceless, something I will add to my resume. Once I finished registering I decided it would be a good time to start on my homework for the weekend. Since I work a lot I figure it is better to finish my home work early rather than waiting till the last minute. A famous quote I learned in high school was “to be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late.” This is such a relevant quote in life because if we do things early less stress is added on our daily lives. I hope this quote helps you with anything you’re going through. Well mates it is time for me to hit the haystack, the working weekend is approaching, check you later!

Super Bowl Sunday

G’day Mates! Super Bowl Sunday is one of the biggest days of the year. As most of you probably know, this year’s matchup was between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots. I wasn’t too excited for the game because none of my favorite teams made it, but I was excited for the commercials to see what company had the best one. My day started off with me going to work at Qdoba which wasn’t too bad because a lot of people were getting ready for the Super Bowl party. Afterwards my friend Rachel and I headed up to Appleton, Wisconsin to do some shopping at the Fox Valley mall. We found some great deals on clearance items at different stores. Once we finish shopping we worked up an appetite so we decided to get some supper at TGI Friday’s. There weren’t many people in the restaurant so we decided to eat in the bar area because were able to watch the game as well. Looking through the menu was hard because there were so many great entrees to choose from; it took me about ten minutes to decide what I wanted. I chose this new deal on the menu, which was an appetizer, an entrée, and a dessert, all for $12.99. This is definitely a bang for your buck, I recommend it if you come to this restaurant to check out their menu special. By the way, the food turned out wonderful and everything was fulfilling. At this time we were having a good time talking, watching the game, and laughing at the commercials. My favorite commercial of all was the M&M one because I could relate to the theme they were talking about. Check out the commercial click on the link at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q33drZUXSzY . I guarantee you will get a good laugh out of it.
At halftime we figured we should head home so we’d have enough time to watch the second half of the big game. Once I got home I quickly turned the game on to make sure I didn’t miss anything because this game was more intense and close than I expected. I decided it would be a good idea for me to do my homework at the same to multitask, but that didn’t last long because I was glued to the television. Each team was playing their hearts out since the game was on the line. I was cheering for the New York Giants because I can’t stand the New England Patriots because of long term rivals. In the final minute of the game nobody knew who was going to take home the championship trophy because the game kept going back and forth. During the last play of the game the Giants had the lead, but the Patriots had the ball to win. With a Hail Mary throw to win, the Patriots didn’t catch the ball, therefore the Giants won Super Bowl XLVI. I clapped in joy, and texted some of my friends on the east coast to congrats them on their team winning. They were super excited. After an intense game and day I called it a day and started on my homework. Until next time, Ciao!

Ahoy Madison, Wisconsin

On Tuesday, January 31, I had the opportunity to do a presentation in the State Capitol. I was nominated to represent MPTC’s Fond du Lac campus for culinary arts to talk about community service projects. Students and staff members from each of MPTC’s campuses drove in a van to represent our schools in the capital. This event, ‘’A Celebration of Student Engagement’’ held in the State Capitol Rotunda was a showcase focusing on Wisconsin’s Technical College students from around the state to represent hardworking commitment we do both in and out of the classroom. I was glad to meet fellow classmates from other schools and network with people around the state. Once we arrived at the capitol we started to set up our display projects on the second floor of the building. The sight inside is amazing; it always impresses me how people built beautiful structures and last all these years. I have some pictures below to show how amazing the artwork inside was like. Shortly after the event started; we talked to students and instructors from other schools and learned new information about different programs. Around lunch time we were offered free lunch from Jimmy Johns, consisting of a sandwich, chips, and a drink which was super tasty.
As lunch came to an end it was time for us to get back in action to present our display, and talk to our legislative leaders from our district. Although we are coming from technical schools we still have the same opportunity of becoming successful as a person coming from a four year university. Guest speaker, Mark Schmitz, owner and founder of zebradog.com talked about his success he gained from a technical school, and now owns a business across the street from the Capitol building. His speech was very motivating and gave awareness that funding in technical colleges is just as important. Towards the end of the event we received certificates of achievement from our district legislators, and gave one final speech about what we are doing in the community to make an impact. As that finished up we started to pack up and headed back to Fond du Lac. Overall this event was successful to me because I had the opportunity to network with other students and schools. I hope there will more people next year because people should be aware of the opportunities of networking and being involved in the community. Well mates that is all for now, stay tuned for the next voyage!

Go Bucks!

On Tuesday January 10, I started my day off by going to school for my winterim class. We learned more information about how to enhance our resumes, were given a presentation about how to find jobs and how to attract companies to take a look at out resumes. The key factor of finding a job is networking with people. This shows people that you are a reliable and responsible person compared to a person who doesn’t have a good reference. This presentation took up the majority of the class, and then we were done for the day. After class I went home to eat lunch and work on my UFC training workout and it was another successful training. Then I got ready to attend my first basketball game for 2012 with some of my friends in Milwaukee where the Milwaukee Bucks were playing against the San Antonio Spurs. Since one of my friend works at the stadium we got some good seats for a good price. I was really happy to attend this game because there were players on the Spurs team that I always wanted to see in person such as Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and many other players. To see players on television is way different to see in person. I only wished I could’ve got an autograph. During the game it was a tough battle for both teams, there were many lead changes, but the Bucks didn’t back down. Throughout the game I was cheering for the Bucks and at the same time I almost lost my voice by yelling and cheering so loud. At one point I caught a souvenir ball with my hands that the cheerleaders were tossing out. The things got even better because we met a famous person named Hippie Tom; he is from the hit television show on the History Channel called America Pickers. We took a picture with him and he seemed like a fun person. Then in the fourth quarter of the game the game was getting intense with the game on the line with minutes left. Either team was refusing to lose, but with the Bucks tough defense and great offense the Bucks took home the win against a talented Spurs team. After a long day we headed back home, and I was tired after a fun productive day. I am hoping to attend more games because it is always nice seeing a big city and supporting Wisconsin teams besides the Packers. Well mates that is all for today! Check you later!

Happy Friday 2012

Ah at last it is the first weekend of 2012 and what is a better way to kick off the weekend? Well the answer to that would be trying out a new restaurant! My friend Jade and I kept our promise to hang out and try out new restaurants. We decided to check out a Korean restaurant in Appleton, Wisconsin. We both tried various Asian cuisines but we haven’t tried Korean, so we figure we should check out this place since it had received many great reviews and award many honors. As we drove up to Appleton the weather was a bit windy but pleasant for a winter day, although it felt like spring time. The drive there took about forty-five minutes, but then at last we were at the restaurant. From the outside it looked small until we came inside and the place was a lot bigger than we expected. Inside you would think we were in a different world. The walls were painted green and had various art pieces showing the culture style.
As we were seated the menu looked fancy and the choices to eat were endless ranging from appetizers, lunch specials and much more. I was applauded about how big the menu was and I had a hard time deciding what to get because everything looked and sounded so good! Finally we decided what we wanted to get; I order a Korean BBQ chicken with purple rice. Yes that is correct I did say purple rice, to me it tasted like a cross over of wild rice and sticky rice. My friend Jade ordered the same thing except beef instead of chicken. Once our lunch came everything looked and smelled so good, I already knew I was going to eat everything on my plate even if I get full because the smell was fantastic. As we dug into our meal everything tasted so good, everything was freshly made and the flavors were amazing! Like I promised myself I finished everything on plate, although afterwards I was super full but it was worth it! Together our bill came out to be $24 which is a bargain for a killer deal. One more thing before I dock for the day. As a tip I would say lunch is the best time to go to a restaurant because you can take advantage of lunch specials that offer more food and half the cost of dinner prices. Well mates that all for the day, Ciao!

The Monday Blues!
My weekend was pretty relaxing; I basically worked at Qdoba and played video games with some of my friends. With that being said another week of classes was approaching, and now it is Monday, you know people’s favorite day of the week! My Monday started with my Food Principle class. We started to review our final exam questions, and we had a cheese presentation by Geogerina, a sales representative, from Grande Cheese Company. She informed us about the numerous varieties of cheese they offer, and how Grande Cheese uses the freshest ingredients without any fillers or preservatives. Thus far their headquarters is located in Lomira, Wisconsin, but they are in the process of moving their headquarters to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin which would add two hundred jobs in town. The best part of the presentation was that we were able to try the cheese from Grande. I found out which cheeses I liked and didn’t like. I learned that for aged cheese you must have an acquired taste for it otherwise it is a hit or miss. Once class finished my friend Hayley and I purchased our tickets for the Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan concert at the Resch Center in Green Bay, on February 16, 2012. We are so excited to attend this because these two artists are becoming huge in the spotlight, and their music is amazing, especially if you like country. Afterwards I started to write my blogs, and talked to friends from school. It is funny although I was done with class at 11 a.m. I didn’t leave school till 6 p.m. because I got distracted talking to people and running errands around school. I didn’t mind because I had nothing else to do and Moraine Park Technical College is basically my second home. Well the Monday Blues turned into Happy Blues; it is amazing how things turn out at the end of the day. Well that is all for now I will catch you on my Tuesday voyage! Ciao!
Cheers,

Something New

For my vegetables and potatoes class we made foods I have never cooked with before. Every time I go to the store shopping in the produce area I wonder how to make certain vegetables into a meal such as brussel sprouts and parsnips? After learning how to cook these products I will not hesitate to purchase them anymore. Once I learn a new cooking technique I’m determined to find new creative ways to have other people enjoy them as well. We made a parsnip puree, broccoli almandine, Brussels sprouts, squash soup, and vegetables skewers. These recipes came out really good; with the fresh herbs added it adds a unique flavor profile. I’ve notice many people do not like vegetables because the way they were cooked or they had too much of it growing up. Actually if people would continue to eat their veggies it can improve their immune system and vegetables have high nutrition values. All of these freshly made foods can be purchased by the public everyday in the Culinary Corner in the coolers, and the cost is at a low cost.
After class some friends from MPTC decided we should go to a restaurant where our friend works at. We drove to Fin and Feather Supper Club in Campbellsport, Wisconsin which is 30 minutes from Fond du Lac. I always heard about this place but I wasn’t sure what to expect from this supper club. Fin and Feather Supper Club is basically in the middle of nowhere, but after arriving at the restaurant I realized the beautiful scenery in the back of the building. I was told in the summer eating outside is the way to go because of the open space and the natural atmosphere surrounded by a creek and trees. For appetizers we got fried onions which were super massive, then shortly after we received our meal. I got a Jackie southwest burger served on ciabatta bread with french fries. The burger was good full of flavors from the peppers and onions and warm cheddar cheese. If you want to try something new I would say head out and checkout this place. The people were friendly as well so yeah just don’t sit there, come and try for yourself! On my next blog I will tell about my deep-fry experience for my hot sandwich class.

The Last Hoorah for October

Can you believe October is done? This month has been productive, busy and fun but now it’s time to get ready for a new month ahead. Just because October is done does not mean the last day would be boring, instead, I enjoyed the last day. While people are wrapping up celebrating Halloween getting their last trick or treating in, I started my day with a mini field trip for my Food Principles class. We went to Ollie’s Olive Oil Bar located on Johnson Street next to the Piggly Wiggly store in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Owner Julie Regan opened her business a month ago and she is determined her business will flourish for the months ahead. Some may ask if there are a lot of flavors of olives oils and balsamic vinegars. The answer is yes; in this store you can find flavors ranging from herbs to fruit flavors even espresso chocolate types.
As a class we tried all these great robust flavors and the samples were endless. Owner Julie gave us a quick lesson about her products and where they are from. She included these products are the freshest you can get from around the world and they are freshly poured when customers come to purchase their bottles. I was so impressed I decided to buy a bottle to use for my recipes at school and other students were on the same page as me. I recommend people to come to this store and try these product if they never have before, because I guarantee you will come back to buy more. For more information you can email Julie at Julie@OlliesOliveOilBar.com or check out the website at www.OlliesOliveOilBar.com. Well until next time, I’ll catch you on the next voyage.

Random Times
October 15, was a random day for me but I didn’t complain. After I finished my shift at Qdoba my friend called me to grab some grub in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. So I figured why not. It’s something to do. We went to a pizza parlor name Cranky Pat’s. This pizza parlor was located in a building on the bottom floor, and was a little small in size. The atmosphere was cozy filled with people of all ages enjoying their food and a night out on a Saturday night. I decided to get a cheese pizza with feta, and my friend got a Po’ Boy sandwich. My pizza was delicious, it had a crispy crust and cheesy topping; I reckon to anyone who loves a burnt edge. I was told the best time to attend this place is around midnight when there is a buffet style setting with all their food with a low cost price value. Once we finished our meal we headed a few short blocks to the Grand Opera House for the Haunted Happy Hour and Spirits of the Grand Tours. This was a guided “Spirit” tour of The Grand where we learned about the people and spirits history. I learned a lot from this tour, I did not realize how many famous people performed at The Grand throughout the years. Politicians, singers, and magicians are just a few of the people who made an appearance and perform at The Grand. Throughout the tour each ‘’spirit” guide told us some of the tale they experienced with ghost or images they saw throughout the years. The tour lasted for forty-five minutes and the cost was fifteen dollars, and I must say this was another event that was worth the time and money. The Grand Opera House offers several other events throughout the month filled with films, receptions, plays and much more! Another day in the making, see you soon!

October Fun
October 14, was a good Friday for me. The day started with me going to Red Robin and going shopping at the outlet mall in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. I finally had a chance to go shopping for the winter months ahead, and got some great deals on clearance items. I figure the best time to go shopping is in the off season when stores are trying to get rid of their old stocks. Later that night a group of friends from school and I went to Meuer corn maze in Chilton, Wisconsin. Check out the Meuer corn maze at http://www.meuerfarm.com/corn-maze.html.
This corn maze is known for their unique design of local business logos, and is over 10 acres in size. It’s been three years for the Meuer family making these designs for the public to attend. The cost of the corn maze is ten dollars but the money is well spent for an adventure experience. Before starting the maze we were given glow sticks and trivia clues to guide us through. There are two phases of the maze: numbers one to ten, so we went through one through five first. Going at night gives a creepy feeling because the scene seemed to be from a scary film and at any given second a person may jump out trying to scare us. We were brave enough to continue through the path and accomplish the maze. At first the maze was simple as we found our numbers to guide us through, but midway through the numbers got difficult. One phase was so difficult that we went in a circle seven times to wind up in the same spot. Luckily we were determined enough to continue and find our next phase and we did indeed find our next spot. We cheered in joy and continued on.
Throughout the maze we learned answers from our trivia clues that I never knew before. After an hour and half later we finished the maze, and it was a blast, something I will definitely do again. Our adventure didn’t end at the maze, as we continued to grab some hot cider and snacks in the shed area we were in for a treat.
We started to talk to the owner of the farm and he gave us inside look into his products which are made directly from his farm. He gave us a bag of kettle corn he made hours before, during this time he gave lessons about different types of popcorn, strawberries, honey and maple syrup. All of these products are grown on his farm yearly. I couldn’t believe how much information I haven’t learned yet but I’m glad he gave us some useful information. What more could we ask for? Actually he even gave us samples of each of his products, these flavors were amazing. We were so convinced that we bought some of the products because we couldn’t resist. Overall this was an adventure Friday and a good way to start the weekend off. Until next time Ciao!
Cheers,
Lee IV
