Guest Appearance

Welcome back mates! On Thursday, March 29 my friend Tyler came up to visit me from Chicago. Since it was my birthday week celebration, we decided it was a good idea for him to DJ at Slim & Chubby’s while I promoted to get more people to come out. We also checked out my friend’s new restaurant located in North Fond du Lac. She was excited to open her new restaurant, and I was happy for her. I figured we should come out and show support. The name of the restaurant is Mangolios, and the theme is a bar and grill. This place is super huge and there are a lot of games from shuffle boards to pool games. Not only was this place huge but the food here was beyond amazing because it is made freshly. My friend Jenni who owns the restaurant wants her products to be locally bought and freshly made. This concept is important because the quality of the food tastes a lot better. When we received our meal everything tasted and smelled so good, and we ate away. As we finished our meal we were super full, and after that meal we weren’t hungry until hours later. I recommend you should try this delicious place.
After we left the restaurant we headed to Slim & Chubby’s to start setting up for the night. I had a feeling that the night would be a great night because I told a lot of people to come out. To make the night even better I realized that the band Gym Class Heroes was performing at Marian University. I figured it was a good idea to tweet the band to have their after party at Slim & Chubby’s. I figured I had nothing to lose to send out an invite, and surprise! They came out after their performance at Marian University. I was shocked but I could tell people were having a great time and dancing the night away. As my friend Tyler was DJing the night away we meet some of the people from Gym Class Heroes, we had a good time playing music and getting the people going. I must say that night was a great time, and I hope there are more nights like that. Well mates that is all for now, on our next voyage we’ll be traveling into a new month of April.

Good News

Howdy Mates! February 23 started off on a good note because I found out I got the student ambassador position for Moraine Park Technical College. It is a honor to have this position because I know I will do whatever it takes to get people involved with campus activities, and communicating with students, staff, and instructors. I am looking forward to the numerous activities ahead and working on becoming a better person to balance my schedule and staying well rounded. After I received the good news I headed off to my Ethnic Restaurant class. I told some of my friends and classmates and they congratulated me on my new position. As we continued with class we went over how to service our guests in restaurants. I learned some important information how to keep guests satisfied, and the proper ways to serve drinks and food to people. All of these steps will help me to teach others down the road of the knowledge I was taught. Once class was done I did some errands around town paying off my bills, and keeping up with the maintenance of my vehicle. Afterwards I meet up with my friend Sean to have dinner at a local restaurant called Parrot Palms located on Johnson Street in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Since we both have busy schedules we meet up at least once a week and catching up on each lives and laughing of the past. Parrot Palms was a unique place, the theme was compared to a tropical place like Hawaii. There is a decent size dance floor, and the music was good because they were playing great music from the 70s. It is always nice listening to music in the past instead of the typical radio music. Five minutes later we ordered our food, and within no time the food came out. I ordered a hamburger, chips, and their hottest wings because I love spicy foods. After we finished our dinner we played a series of pool, although I’m not very good I still won because my friend Sean kept hitting in the eight ball, but I didn’t complain. Overall I must say we would come back and try some other food on the menu too see If they have the best in town. Since it was Thursday night I went into work to DJ at Slim and Chubby’s, and it was a solid night. People were dancing and enjoying themselves; this always makes me happy to see other people having a great time out. Well mates after a fun productive day it’s time for me to get some sleep I have another big weekend ahead. Ciao!

Good o Thursday, Feb. 2

G’day Mates, today I had to wake up early but it was worthy for a special event. I was invited to attend a Rotary Club breakfast meeting at South Hill’s Golf & Country Club in Fond du Lac. I was the nominated student of the month for Moraine Park Technical College for my leadership skills both in and outside of the classroom, and being involved with various activities. It was an honor to meet and connect to the President of the club and other members in the community. Some of the members I recognized from my previous school at Marian University. The meeting started with a buffet style breakfast, followed by the opening of the meeting. Shortly afterwards I gave a short speech to the members about myself and the future goals I plan on doing. Speaking in front of people gives me the opportunity to share my experience and encourage people to try new things. After my speech the meeting continued with the agenda followed by a video presentation about a soy cow program hosted in Peru. Soy cow is program that assists the less privilege by passing out calcium products to the community to improve their diets. After the meeting I headed off to school for my ethnic restaurant class. We went over costing sheets and menus for our restaurant day. As a reminder my restaurant day is on May 3, 2012 at Park Terrace Restaurant at Moraine Park Technical College’s Fond du Lac campus, and my cuisine is South Korea. If you have the opportunity to come my restaurant day I recommend and it will be an honor to have a great turnout on my restaurant day. After class I basically got some homework done before I DJ’ing at Slim and Chubby’s later that night. There was a good turnout of people that came and danced the night away. I love to DJ because it gives me the opportunity to learn and play songs from different genres and make sure people have a great time! After an early morning and a late night, it is time for me to sleep because Super Bowl weekend is ahead, and I am looking forward the commercials and entertainment! Ciao!

DJ Thursday

January 19 was the day I gave my friend Tyler a tour of Fond du Lac. We started the day off by going to Qdoba because he’s never been there, and I figured Qdoba is a great way to start the day off with a fresh burrito. Once we finished our food we headed across the street to Forest Mall. We talked about how small the mall is compared to the malls located in Chicago, but it was soothing to go somewhere that was not loud and crowded. We looked at different stores to see if there were anything good on sale, but we didn’t find anything worthy to purchase. At this moment we felt this was a great opportunity to spread the news about our DJ debut at Slim and Chubby’s to our friends. This promoting came in handy to draw attention, and hopefully bring in a good crowd. Afterwards I showed Tyler MPTC’s campus, and gave him a glimpse of the typical day of the things I do at school. He was impressed how the campus is all connected; which is very beneficial during cold weather months. I also introduced him to some instructors and staff around campus, and showed him people here are friendly and very helpful. Once we left campus I told him if you come to Fond du Lac then you must see the lighthouse on Lake Winnebago. As we approached the lighthouse he was impressed because he never saw a frozen lake before, and seeing people walking across the ice blew his mind. I guess since I was used to seeing the lake frozen I took it for granted, but I laughed and said welcome to Wisconsin. If you’ve never been to Lakeside Park you are missing out; the best time to see a beautiful scene is at dawn. Shortly afterwards we headed back home to get the night started. We listened to some music to get an idea for our playlist for the night, and then at ten o’clock it was time for us to DJ the night away. It was a slow start but then people kept coming in and danced the night away. I was learning some new techniques from Tyler since he has been doing this gig for two years, and the crowd loved the music selection. I could tell everyone was having a good time, even when it was time to close people didn’t want to leave, but they had to go home. Afterwards the bartenders and the owners said we did a great job on the stage. I hope next week I can utilize the things I learned and improve my DJ skills. Hasta Luego Chicago!

Well today is my last day in Chicago. Every time I am having fun time always tends to go fast. My mom was kind enough to drop me off at the bus station in the Chicago. As we drove through the city the skyline is one of the beautiful scenes than any other city I have seen yet. I gave my mom a hug as she dropped me off, then I quickly jogged to the bus to make sure I didn’t miss my bus. Then another surprise came along as my friend Tyler decided to come back to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin for a couple of days to visit. He is one of the fewest friends from Chicago who actually came up to visit me here in town. We both got on the Mega bus and headed off to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. During this time we were catching up on the present and past. Another reason why Tyler came up was to DJ with me at Slim and Chubby’s so I can learn more about DJing. We got into Milwaukee in no time because the traffic was smooth and the weather was sunny. I then decided we should go to the casino especially since Tyler has never been to one, so we went to Potawatomi Casino in Milwaukee. The best way to describe a casino is like Chuckie Cheese for adults because of all the noises, lights, and people. It was a good time; we walked around and played a round of roulette which is my favorite game to play. We didn’t stay long because I had to work, then we got into the van and drove up to good ol’ Fond du Lac. Once we got back home I showed him around the house and told him to make himself at home. Afterwards I headed off to work for a couple of hours. Once I finished I headed back home, and by then some friends from school came over to play board games. It was a good time; we all laughed, told jokes, and just enjoyed the night. We then decided it was time for bed since we had a big day for the next day. Last Day of Finals

At last, after a week of cleaning, taking exams, and selling cookies today is the last day of classes before the winter break. You can tell people were happy to get on break, but sad because we won’t be cooking in the kitchens for a month, so it is a bitter sweet feeling. Before we could go on break we had two more finals to go. In my potatoes/vegetable class our final was we had to create an agenda for people to clean up in the kitchen, create a plan to make it easier for new students to understand the concepts of classrooms, and basic knowledge of the kitchen. As a group we came up with some great ideas, so hopefully these ideas can benefit others in the near future. Since we finished a little early my friend Chelssie and I figured it would be a good idea to go around and sell our cookies for our fundraiser. So we went around sold cookies while playing Yahtzee on a cart. It was a great combo and people really liked the cookies. They sold fast. By the time we finished selling cookies we only had four trays of cookies left, and we started with thirty trays.
In my afternoon salads class the only thing we had left to do was clean up the rest of the kitchen since we did our final test out on Tuesday. This process didn’t take long because we have been cleaning all week. Basically we had to polish the stainless steel appliances and make sure everything was tidied up for break. Once we finished we started to pack up our bags and cheered for winter break. Finally we all get to enjoy our holiday, but we made sure we will all keep in contact over break to have some fun hanging out.

Later in the night I had my second dj debut at Slim & Chubby’s Bar located downtown Fond du Lac, on Main Street. I was excited because I love music, dancing, having a great time with friends and meeting new people. The start of the night started a little slow and I was getting worry because I didn’t want to end early. As time went on people slowly started to come in, then I got some pop music going, then the next thing you know around 11:30 p.m. there were a crowd of people who hit up the dance floor and danced the night away. This made me happy to see people having a great time, and I was able to DJ until the bar closed. Overall this day and night was really fun, can’t complain at all!. Like always I’ll catch you on the next voyage!
