Student Ambassador Update

My term as student ambassador has been a lot of fun. I have participated in many events inside and outside of school. This program has taught me how to be flexible, responsible and to set the bar high for the next student ambassador. With the connections I made with people in the community has lead me to my current project. I am the coordinator to relay information from the culinary club to Julie owner of Gallery & Frame Shop who runs the Art Walk Tour the Town in Fond du Lac. Her mission is to promote the arts, fine dining and entertainment in historic downtown Fond du Lac. My job has been getting the culinary club to sell fresh loaves of bread on the event night, which will help raise money for our fundraisers. I realize how fun it is to work with people personally and seeing an event expands into other opportunities. Ebony Vision Black History Event

As Moraine Park’s Ambassador I attended an event hosted by Ebony Vision at UW-Fond du Lac campus on February 11. Ebony Vision is an organization in Fond du Lac whose vision is to gain equal access everyday to overcome difference between humanity. This event celebrated and recognized the people who made a difference in society to help and improve equal rights. Organizations from Moraine Park Technical College, UW-Fond du Lac, and Marian University all came together to put this unique event together. During the celebration there was poetry, singing and dancing by people who were representing historical African-American leaders. Afterwards there was a potluck at Marian University. I was able to meet new people from the community from different organizations. Having the opportunity to network with them was priceless, knowing these people will help me to become more involved in the community to make a difference in people lives. After a long fun day I was glad I attended this event to celebrate diversity and community. 12-12-12 Last day of class

Well mates today mark off two special events. One in particular is 12-12-12 which is a once in a life appearance to see. Since today is a unique day a lot of people decided to get married, play the lottery, and do other superstitious things because they feel something lucky will occur. I am not superstitious, but I am looking forward to see if anything does happen on this day. Besides the unique date, today also marks off my last day of college at Moraine Park Technical College. I am in awe how fast my two years have gone at Moraine Park. I met a lot of people from students to staff members who made my journey here successful and fun. Although I will not have class next semester I will still be around checking out the fun events and serving in my role as Moraine Park Student Ambassador. Cheers, Lee IV

Student Ambassador Event in Madison

G’day Mates! Recently I sailed down to Madison for the Wisconsin Technical College’s State Student Ambassador Event at the Sheraton Hotel. This event gave the student ambassadors for the 2012-2013 school year the opportunity to meet each other. I was excited to meet people and learn more about their college. The day started off with breakfast and ice breakers to learn each other’s names, and something unique about one another. After the ice breakers we began our teamwork and leadership skills exercise. This was interesting because it taught us how to become a better leader, and the steps we should take when our schedules get hectic. As we finished with this exercise it was time to discuss what our individual colleges do in our communities, and the impact our technical colleges have on education. Shortly after it was time for lunch, and we were served delicious sandwiches and desserts. After lunch we started to rehearsal for our award ceremony. It was a great feeling to be ready for a special night. We were all anxious to kick off the ceremony. During this time we went over the importance and the role of a student ambassador. As the evening approached we got ready for the award dinner. We took numerous pictures before dinner. At the dinner the food was amazing! There were so many amazing buffet style foods, and the desserts were unbelievable. As people finished their meals the program started. The president of the Wisconsin Technical College System and Jonathan Baird gave their speeches as they welcomed the student ambassadors. Afterwards each student ambassador came up to the stage to give a two minute speech about their story of how they picked a technical college. I was amazed by the stories I heard and it really touched my heart of how important technical college are. We all received an award plaque and generous donation from Baird Corporation. It is an honor to be a student ambassador of Moraine Park. I am looking forward to meeting new students, being even more involved with college functions and the impact of technical colleges. This was a tremendous event, and I would like to thank everyone for their support! As the night came to an end it was time for us to have free time. Therefore, I met up with some friends to check out the nightlife in Madison, and I must say it is a wonderful place. With so many things to see and do I recommend checking out Madison either in the day or night. I guarantee you will have a great time! Cheers, Lee IV

– Brewers vs. Dodgers

G’day Mates, like I promised previously, here is round two of the voyage on April 17. After having an early morning helping with the segment for Fox 11, I had to work at Qdoba. The shift went well as the normal lunch rush came in and made the time fly by. I was eager to be done because later that day I headed down to Milwaukee for the Brewers game. After work I met up with some friends to carpool down to the game. We were celebrating our friends Danni’s birthday. She wanted to eat at the Safe House restaurant in Milwaukee before the game started. The Safe House is a unique restaurant that specializes in a spy theme. I recommend this place because of the cool features that are located throughout the restaurant. You can check out the website at http://www.safe-house.com Afterwards we headed off to the Brewers game. We made it in enough time to tailgate, although it was a bit windy we still had a good time talking and getting pumped for the game. The Brewers were playing the Los Angeles Dodgers. Since this was my first Brewers game for 2012 I was hoping they would pull off a win. We sat on the 400 level in which I didn’t mind because I was able to see the whole stadium from the top; I think it is the best seat. Throughout the game we got drinks and food as we cheered on the Brew crew. The whole game was very close; I wasn’t sure if the Brewers had it to take home the win. It wasn’t until the bottom of the 9th when things changed and there was hope. The Brewers fought hard to get the go ahead run to win the game. The people who left early missed a tremendous ending. I was glad to witness a great game against the Dodgers. Well mates, after a long fun day it is time to dock the ship. The big day

G’day Mates! February 22 was the day I got interviewed for becoming student ambassador for Moraine Park Technical College. I was a little nervous for this interview because I was in front of eight people asking me questions about myself and why I would be a good fit for this position. Since I’m used to talking in front of people I became comfortable answering my questions and making eye contact with each person. Towards the end of my interview session I was aware a student ambassador has many responsibilities such as committing to a one-year term, attending student senate meetings, attending campus activities, and much more. This experience was great because I was able to use my communication skills and practice being in front of people without getting nervous. The best thing I got out of this interview session was I was able to meet the committee members who are from the surrounding community. Overall I felt this position would be perfect for me because I am very outgoing, I attend the various events on campus, and I love networking and meeting new people. I hope I will get this position, so my fingers are crossed! I will keep you posted on my next blog of what the results are. See you soon!
