Kid Rock at Rock USA

One of the things I like about summer festivals is that they provide additional work which allows me to make more money. Recently I had the opportunity to bartend in Oshkosh at Rock USA. I had a lot of fun because I was able to learn new things, talk to people, and watch some of the performers. When I first arrived at Rock USA, I was working the main beer tent, but since more people were needed to work the cocktail tent I was transferred over. This was nice because I was closer to the main stage and I was told more tips were given at the cocktail tent. I was able to learn about the drink menu and prices. The menu was long but I was able to get help from my fellow coworkers. Throughout the evening I was working hard giving people their drinks and money. Hours later the band Hollywood Undead came to our tent to buy drinks! I was shocked and fans were taking pictures. I like when bands are down to earth and are involved with their fans. They were friendly and funny; it was awesome meeting them personally. Moments later the band Seether performed on stage and they did an excellent performance, they really got the crowd going. For the last performance of the night Kid Rock came on stage and the crowd went crazy. Having a busy night made the time go by fast, and then by the time Kid Rock got on stage things slowed down. At this time I was able to watch most of Kid Rock’s performance and I recognized the majority of his songs. The rest of the night went smoothly, and the best part was I was able to get paid and still catch a great performance from Kid Rock. I must agree with the saying “Work Hard, Play Hard”. After working a long day I called it a night because I had to work at my next job in the morning, but as I fell asleep I could hear Kid Rock in my head. Cheers, Lee IV

Enjoying the outdoors on Friday the 13th

Most people are superstitious about Friday the 13th but I think it’s a way for people to blame something gone wrong on this historical day. Instead of staying inside I went to Redgranite, Wisconsin for their unique quarry. The drive from Fond du Lac is about a forty-five minute drive without construction. Redgranite is another city in Wisconsin I recommend you to visit in the summer because you are able to jump off cliffs into the water, go swimming, and layout in the sun with friends and family. As a warning you have to be careful around certain cliffs because of the rocks, but the majority of the area is free from dangerous rocks. Since I am not a great swimmer I decided to stay on land to watch my friends and other people jump off the cliffs. I did get in the water where the water was shallow and it was so refreshing. After staying in the sun for hours we got hungry so we decided to leave. We went to Nikos Gyros in Oshkosh. This place has amazing gyros ranging from burgers, combo meals, and sandwiches. I got the gyro burger with Cajun fries and of course it was yummy. You probably can tell by now that I like spicy food because it makes the food tasty. After we finished eating we headed home and I fell asleep because the sun drained me out. I must say this was a great Friday the 13th in the sun, I hope your day was just as fun or interesting! Catch you soon in my next blog as I talk about my experience working at Rock USA in Oshkosh. Cheers, Lee IV

Wolf River in Wisconsin

Thus far in my blogs for summer activities I recommended going to Bay Beach, Miniature golfing, Kelley Country Creamery, and Bradford beach. For my fifth destination I recommend going tubing on the Wolf River in New London, Wisconsin. A group of friends and I planned this trip at the last minute. For years I heard about people going to the Wolf River, and I finally had the opportunity to go for myself. From Fond du Lac it is about a forty-five minute drive on a good day. As we arrived we paid ten dollars to relax and tube down the river. It takes about two hours for the short length and six hours for the long length of the river. Since we got there a little later we had to do the short trip. We enjoyed the afternoon in the sun and the refreshing water. The area is beautiful, filled with nature, birds, and fish. You have to visit to fully understand the experience on the Wolf River. Since the river is low due lack of rain this summer we kept running into rocks, but that didn’t prevent us from having fun. Usually if the river is higher you don’t have to worry about any rocks you just go right above them. Two hours later we finished our mini trip on the river; we had a lot of fun doing “something out of the blue”. At the Wolf River you can also camp, fish and participate in other water fun activities. For more information you can check out the website at http://www.wolfrivertrips.com. Well just don’t sit there go out enjoy what Wisconsin has to offer, catch you soon. Cheers, Lee IV

Activities to do in Fond du Lac

As the summer months start to pick up there are more things to do in Fond du Lac. My girlfriend and I went miniature golfing at the Fondy Sports complex. This place is filled with activities such as miniature golf; batting cages, go karts, arcade games, and much more. Fondy Sports is a great for all ages and for people who are looking for something to do. We started off playing 18 rounds of putting, trying to figure out who is better at miniature golf. To make things interesting we made a bet saying whoever loses has to buy ice cream for two. I started off a bit rough but as time progressed I improved. Throughout the course we had similar scores. Although on the last hole I got a hole in one, however, I still lost by two points. At the end it was all fun and games, but I shall redeem myself next time. Since I lost I had to buy ice cream for the two of us. I decided to drive down to Kelley Country Creamery located south of Fond du Lac. If you never visit Kelley Country Creamery before then you are missing out on some delicious ice cream. The ice cream is made fresh on the farm, and you can see the where they milk the cows. Usually during peak hours there is a long line, but the line moves really fast. As we entered the shop we could smell the fresh waffle cones and ice cream. There are so many choices to choose from: sundaes, quarts of ice cream, dishes, and much more. I got the farmers wife sundae made of white chocolate raspberry ice cream with raspberry and chocolate topping, and I must say it was delicious. We ate our ice cream outside as we watched the sunset. The area is peaceful and quiet; you can smell the fresh air as you enjoy the people around you. For more information and direction to Kelley Country Creamery click on the link http://kelleycountrycreamery.com/?page_id=25 I hope you enjoy it! Cheers, Lee IV

4th of July

Happy birthday America! On the 4th of July I was able to enjoy my day off and enjoy the hot weather day. A couple of friends from Moraine Park and I headed down to Bradford Beach in Milwaukee. Bradford Beach is an hour south of Fond du Lac located on the east side of Milwaukee. I made sure I tagged along because the weather was super hot and the beach was a perfect way to stay cool. Of course since a lot of people were off on the 4th the beach was packed with people. After walking a mile we finally arrived at the beach, and the sand was beyond hot; it felt like we were stepping on hot coals. We quickly found a spot to drop off our cooler and bags then ran into the water. We enjoyed the day of tanning, drinking, playing beach games and volleyball. It was good to see people wearing clothes supporting America. After a long day at the beach I decided to get something to eat before we headed off to watch the fireworks at nights. I went to 5 Guys and they have a simple menu but amazing food. They are known for their fresh burgers and Cajun fries, but I decided to get their all beef hot dogs with everything on top and Cajun fries. Afterwards I caught up with my friends at the local park to watch the fireworks as I ate my food. Unfortunately the firework show was not as impressive as I hoped, but I enjoyed being off from work and spending time with my friends. Well mates I hoped you enjoyed your holiday off too and spent time with your families. I will catch you on my next blog! Cheers, Lee IV

Going with the flow

Sometime in life I learned when you don’t plan anything to do and “go with the flow” you tend to have more fun. I guess this happens because I have no expectations to live up to. For a prime example the other day my friend Hayley and I went to Fat Joes restaurant in Fond du Lac for dinner and to talk about my trip in Europe. The food was excellent and improved a lot from the first time I went there. We were having a good time eating drinking, and remembering things from our trip from last year when we did the German exchange program. Afterwards we headed outside to the check out the annual America’s Dairyland Bike race located downtown on Main Street in Fond du Lac. People from all over come here to race. I was amazed to see how fast the bikers were going, and how each biker is within inches of one another. We watched a couple of laps before heading off to check out the new restaurant called Trinity. The building used to be a church, but is now changed into a restaurant and bar while keeping the church structure. The restaurant is not open for two more weeks, but the bar was open to the public to get a sneak preview of the place. Inside was beautiful and filled with a lot of people; I can tell this place is going to be fully packed once the whole place is officially open. As we headed outside we noticed the band, Road Trip, was performing on the stage. Road Trip is an amazing band that performs a lot of cover songs, and is well known around the state. They know how to get the crowd going and singing classic music that gets people dancing. The weather was perfect for a summer night, and the community was having a great time as well. Once the concert ended we headed back on Main Street to finish off the night. I must say none of the things we did were planned, but everything fell into place, and it cannot get any better than that. So now you see “going with the flow” can be a lot of fun. Cheers, Lee IV

Fun in Wisconsin at Bay Beach

Have you ever wondered what is there to do in the great state of Wisconsin in the summer? Well now you can find out throughout my blogs this summer. To get a quick thrill and have fun with friends and family the first thing I recommend to add your list of things to do in the summer is going to Bay Beach in Green Bay. Since I am not from Wisconsin I thought Bay Beach was a real beach, but actually it is an amusement park for all ages. Many people know this area because they went to Bay Beach when they were little with their family and friends. My girlfriend Rachel and some friends drove up to Green Bay to have some fun at Bay Beach. Compared to Six Flags Great America and Carnivals rides, Bay Beach is a lot cheaper than those places. The average cost of each ride is about 50 cents, and some are even 25 cents. Since I am not a big of heights I didn’t go on some rides, but I still had a good time doing something different. Summer Fun

After being gone traveling for a month, I wondered what the rest of summer is going to be like? Although I am happy to see my family and friends again, I am already planning where I want visit next. In order to accomplish my goal of traveling to new countries every year, I made sure I am picking up more hours at work to start saving. To kick off my summer back in the states I went to see the summer movie, “The Avengers.” If you have not seen this movie yet, I recommend seeing it because it has everything you need in a movie. Many people will see their favorite comic marvel characters all together in this epic movie. Even the actors and actresses playing these roles were amazing, and they made the plot and storyline interesting. I felt “The Avengers” had a good mixture of adventure, drama, and action. I talked to a lot of people and they loved it; even some saw it two or three times already. I knew if people paid full price to see a movie that many times, then the movie is worth it. Throughout the movie I was on the edge of my chair trying to figure out how it would end. Since I don’t like spoiling information about a great movie; here is a chance for you to check out the trailer below. I guarantee you will enjoy this epic movie. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0848228/ Cheers, Lee IV
